Approved by Buckinghamshire Council earlier this year, the project is set to begin construction in April 2026. Its aim is to capture drainage water from across the golf course property.
This collected water will then be treated and reused for irrigation, specifically targeting the club's greens, tees, approach areas, and eventually the fairways.
Situated near the newly renovated clubhouse, in the area between the second and ninth holes, the reservoirs will have a combined capacity of 19,500 cubic metres.
Water usage represents one of golf's most pressing environmental concerns globally, with billions of litres consumed daily on courses worldwide. As the sport increasingly adopts sustainable practices, recycled water is becoming a vital solution for many clubs.
Harewood Downs now joins this expanding group of environmentally conscious facilities. Upon completion of the reservoirs, the club will significantly reduce its reliance on external water sources for course maintenance.
